Lapis lazuli is the deep royal blue flecked with gold pyrite and threaded with white calcite — a colour so distinctive that for centuries it was the most valuable blue on earth. Caring for It — Important

Lapis is softer and more porous than most people expect, rating roughly 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. The porosity matters: it absorbs liquids, and absorbed oils or chemicals can permanently dull the colour.

Keep it away from water where you can, and away from perfume, lotions, sunscreen, and cleaning products entirely. Put it on after moisturiser, not before. Never soak it, and never use a jewelry dip or ultrasonic cleaner. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth, and store it apart from harder beads that could scratch it.

Handled properly it lasts millennia — there is Bronze Age lapis in museums still holding its colour.
